Hi Benjamin,
Before addressing your query, I’d like to offer some explanation as below:
The domain registrar refers to the organization where you buy your domain.
The DNS hosting provider refers to the organization who manages all the DNS records of your domain. All the DNS records for the related services (for example the email service) need to be created or modified at your DNS hosting provider. And the name server records is the key point which will determine who is your DNS hosting provider of your domain.
Based on your current situation, you buy your domain at Go Daddy, then Go Daddy is your domain registrar. After you have changed your name server records to point to Wix.com, then Wix.com is your current DNS hosting provider. And in process of adding your domain to Office 365, if you want to change your name server records to Office 365, then Office 365 will be your DNS hosting provider.
To clarify your requirement and provide corresponding assistance, could you please provide the following information:
1. Have you verified your domain in Office 365 or just on the way to verify your domain?
2. Do you want to keep using your current public website hosted at Wix.com or switch to use the public website provided by Office 365?
3. Based on the description “What actually needs to have the MX records updated”, which kind of MX record do you need to add?
Please note: There are two kinds of MX records in Office 365. One is for the verification process with a value like MX=mxxxxxx. The other is a MX records which will determine who is your email service provider.
4. Do you want to change to use the email service from Office 365 or keep using the email service from Go Daddy?
5. Whether you want to let Office 365 be your DNS hosting provider or keep Wix.com be your DNS hosting provider?
6. Based on the description “While signing up for O365 the setup has me enter…. O365 then had me change the Name servers to point to O365”, could you please provide some releant screenshots on this?
To upload screenshots, click Use rich Formatting in this thread and select Insert Image.
Meanwhile, could you please provide us the custom domain which you want to add to Office 365? I will check the DNS records for you.
